Gypsophila (Baby’s breath, Fairy Grass) – Snow White

Gypsophila paniculata

Also known as Soapwort, this plant produces dense mats of dainty-flowered creeper which is excellent for easing sloping sites. It is an effective groundcover grown near paved areas or cascading cover walls. Gathered in bunches this plant is excellent for small floral arrangements. Lovely as a border plant in masses, bearing many tiny single white flowers. Great filler for bouquets. Useful as an everlasting if cut before fully opened.

Uses: Beds and borders, Drying, Cut flowers

Days to Germinate: 10 to 15

Germination Temperature: 16 to 25 °C

Sowing Media / Soil Type: Peaty

Sowing Depth: Just cover – sprinkle a fine layer of the sowing media or vermiculite over the seeds after sowing

Sowing Method: Direct sow, transplant recommended

Water: Moderately depending upon the soil and climatic conditions – keep the soil moist but not too wet

Sun: Prefers full sun

Notes: Pat the seeds down gently in the sowing media, light aids germination. Germination can be slow or erratic – do not be hasty in discarding the sowing pots. Plant it in fertilize, well-drained soil in a sunny position and water regularly. May be sown direct, do not cover. Likes well-drained soil. It prefers full sun.
