Tips for Growing Dahlia

Days to Germinate: 05 to 20

Germination Temperature: 18 to 21 °C

Sowing Media / Soil Type: Peaty

Sowing Depth: 1/16 in.

Sowing Method: Direct sow, transplant recommended

Water: Moderately depending upon the soil and climatic conditions – keep the soil moist but not too wet

Sun: Tolerates shade partially

Notes: Grow in rich, well-drained soil in full sun, and with regular moisture. Apply a high-nitrogen fertilizer weekly in spring followed by high-potassium fertilizer weekly from early to end summer. Cover the seeds with four times their thickness in soil. Space 1-3 ft. After the tops have dried, dig up the tubers and store them in a cool place. Replant in cool season to get new plants from the tubers. Dahlias grow naturally in warm climates. Taller cultivars usually require some form of staking as they grow, and all garden dahlias need deadheading regularly, once flowering commences.
